The development of the Dare to Lead™ program
Based on over 400.000 pieces of data and from her work with all types of organizations, Brené developed Dare to Lead™ – an empirically based courage-building program. Covering the four teachable, observable, and measurable courage skills sets, the Dare to Lead™ curriculum includes:
- Rumbling with Vulnerability: Facing risk, uncertainty, and emotional exposure with courage and clarity.
- Living into our Values: Identifying, operationalizing, and practicing the beliefs that we hold most important.
- Braving Trust: Creating or deepening connections in relationships and teams based on the seven elements of trust.
- Learning to Rise: Learning and growing from the failures, setbacks, and disappointments that are inevitable when we are brave with our lives.
Core Competencies: 12 hours
Resource Development: 12 hours
Are you living your values?
IN YOUR LIFE AND IN YOUR MANAGEMENT.
If we don’t know our values, it’s hard to know when our boundaries are being violated. Or whether we’re moving in the right direction.
Values we have put into words – and where we know which activities support them and which undermine them: Those values create the foundation for productive decision-making – whether in private life or in the organization.
In Dare to Lead™, we get to the core of our leadership – our values.
What values guide you in your life? What values do your employees have? How can we use these values actively, and create more of the life – and the leadership – we want?
Values are an essential building block in Dare to Lead™ and on the road to courageous leadership.
“Daring leaders who live into their values are never silent about hard things.”
Brené Brown
Do you dare to lead?
YOURSELF AND/OR OTHERS.
Dr. Brené Brown lists 6 different types of behavior that prevent us from leading with courage:
- We spend an inordinate amount of time dealing with problem behavior.
- We avoid difficult conversations.
- We have unrealistic expectations of ourselves and cultivate the perfect instead of being ourselves.
- We get stuck and let ourselves be defined by setbacks, disappointments and missteps.
- We avoid giving honest and constructive feedback.
- Performance and behavioral challenges are tolerated or ignored.
Through the Dare To Lead™ program, you learn to lead with courage, so that you avoid the 6 destructive types of leadership behavior.
“This is the leadership course I have been looking for, for a long time. It is a strength to show vulnerability as a leader, and the course has made me much clearer in my role as a leader.”
Helle Koch Jensen, Controller
Your benefits
After the program, you’ll know how to promote courageous leadership in practice to increase trust, well-being and performance.
You get the book Dare to Lead™ and a printed workbook with exercises and tools.
Teaching form
We alternate between presentations, exercises and reflections and work with practical examples that you can reflect on, learn from and immediately go home and use after the course. You will have the opportunity to watch the original videos where Brené Brown presents her research and concrete tools. These videos are only available to Dare to Lead™ certified facilitators.
After the program, you will be able to:
✓ Identify what daring leadership and culture look like and know how to promote them in practice.
✓ Recognize what gets in the way of you being able to show your whole self together with others, even when it gets difficult.
✓ Get concrete methods to master the four skills and know how you can use them directly in your team or privately to increase confidence, well-being and performance.
✓ Get concrete tools to give honest feedback, which prevents the perfectionism and fear that prevent people from learning and developing, e.g. in periods of change and upheaval.
✓ Dare to have difficult conversations and know how to do it in practice.
✓ Know how to strengthen trust.
✓ Know how to live out your values in practice and stand up for yourself.
✓ Know how to pick yourself up and your team after failure and learn from it instead of repeating what doesn’t work.
✓ Work with daring leadership based on your personal action plan.
“Courage is contagious. To scale daring leadership and build courage in teams and organizations, we have to cultivate a culture in which brave work, tough conversations, and whole hearts are the expectation, and armor is not necessary or rewarded.”
Brené Brown.
